Each morning, when i wake, i pray,i place my hands in God's today,I know he will walk close by my side,My every wandering close to guide...
I went to school....for the first time when i was 3 years old (nursery) with those tiny tots crosses in green colour over white cloth...the first thing that i can recollect is the ground in front of Old Building..with 2 parallel bar one on LHS and the other on RHS....from 1982 till 1997 saw that ground almost daily!
Was not only sad when was leaving the school that i will be no longer coming to this lovely place but was sad because of the fact that the school was the then in the hands of barbers and barbarians...thats the Plight that doom over-ride the Pride that one would have for his / her school.....
Last week (13th Jan 2007) went to school and was very sad and disappointed to see each of our very own teachers (if one can remember Parvin teacher, Bakhtavar teacher, sudhakaran sir, anila teacher .. our dear aaya masi) were so down and deprived by the condition of school that were just waiting for the retirement rather than talking about the future....the nostalgic streets of shahpoor and chauta bazar our very own ground in Surat...but then no one can blame them because they have tried their level best but we all know for what reasons...the once Parsi school have now hardly 40 odd parsis in it...and condition of school going down by every day....
But then all said and done....we can't forget the masalla pow that we all had...the jelly pow and the pastries of Persian bekri! Let us re-unite through this blog and ensrue that the wonderful memories that we have does not wash away with the time. It is wonderful to see that our teachers are also taking interest in sharing their views over the blog. Lets ensure that we use the technology to it's optimum extent and be together.
Keep blogging and keep the our school alive through your feedback..Check out pictures of our school too!

Plus...there are lot of pictures behind the small (thumbnail) image seen on the page...you will have to click this image to see more....Note: You can view these pictures either by clicking the thumbnail image (recommended since here, pictures have comments associated with them)or can also view through the slide show... Whats more with active efforts from our ex-school mates we are getting more affermative and pictorial content on the blog! No matter how beautiful the blog has been decorated the core and important part is the content , and with such valuable pictures of our teachers from Seema Suneja the blog is taking perfect shape and is going in right direction. We should all thanks her for her effort of visiting school and getting these pics! Thanks Seema... keep blogging.

Yes I do agree the school that we joined as toddlers adn the one that we graduated from were on the two different sides of a spectrum buddy and the nose dives continues.
To everyone out there lets try see if we all can get together and do something worth while for our school?
Neat collection of pics !! each and every pic brings up that flash in my eyes as if i visited my old school and met all you guys !!
Sad to know about the conditions and goings at "our sirjj" but still lov and am proud of SirJJ.
Those golden days will be cherished forever..
Keep it up ! lets reunite !
Wonder if you have the snaps of our teachers as well.
I am sure you would not have left the school without meeting them.
Can you please upload it over here...I know I am asking a bit more as its not nice to upload someone else's snaps without asking them. If possible go ahead and do it.
Amber, a gr8 job you're doing. Keep it up. I've been a teacher in Sir J.J.English school since 1983 and still there.I can understand how you feel about the condition and the plight of the school because I feel the same too. It's not the same as it used to be in the 80's when Mrs. Savai was the Principal and Major Bamji to lend a helping hand.I will never be able to forget these two people. They were the best.
The students that we had back in those days were a world apart from the ones that we get nowadays. They had so much manners, discipline and resect for their teachers back in those days.
I may be able to come up with some old pics of staff and past class for you to put up in your blog if we can get in touch the next time you visit the school.
Keep up the good work.

Hey guys i'm sure u've received the message from some usear about the pics.. I'm posting the link here as well
They're amazing.. Great work Ambs
thinking about the school also brings in mind the ambience..there used to be small shops-an eatery where I used to buy candies and churan and wat not!!!, an auto guarage (nr the mosque) and poultry shop besides it..yeah and the big ground opposite the old building across the road.
I remember waiting for the bell to ring for the end of day, packing schoolbag, grabbing the water bottle and rushing towards the back gate to get nicely ensconced in my autorickshaw seat..used to travel through the stinking fish market of shahpore:)..all the way to the Railway Colony where I used to live.
I have never been to Surat again since the time I left..would love to visit my school again if ever I come back!!..nice to become a part of this group though!!..keep sharing memories.. and keep the spirit of JJites alive n kicking!
cheers- Vivek Khosla
thank you thank you and thank you...i was almost in tears seeing this pics...sirjj is probably one of the most loved school by its student
I just saw the recent pics of Sir J. J posted by Amber..really missing my those school days..I was there for just 2 years between 1994-1996 but still the school is in my memories.
Even get few of our retired teachers like Shehnaz teacher to attend. What do u guys say to this???_
-Eric Bhathawalla
I also remember parvin teacher, seema teacher, shehnaz(?) teacher, maria basrai, sharmin teacher, indira teacher (drawing?), mehta sir, Hutoxi teacher. Many of the teachers had a great deal of influence on me and instilled alot of confidence me.
Playing ball on the ground, cricket, monkeybars...those were great times.
I also distinctly remember coming via rickshaw (always overloaded) and entering through the front gates where they always had those big pots cooking food.
Amber, great job putting this blog together and if anybody recognizes my name, shoot me an email. I would love to hear from one of you!
-Snehal Gandhi
Everyone remembers these days as the golden days and I cannot agree more with it. If its possible lets have a get together wherein may be all can participate irrespective of the batch they are from..........what say.......for starters I am in touch with some of the guys from our batch.........
was talking with amber the other days bout the guys who left in between .. yr name did prop up then...
You have done a wonderful job. They were really the golden days of my life (although we used to curse when we were really enjoying it).
Its very sad to see the condition of the school that once used to be the no. 1 in the city.
Still remember the incident when few of us bunked the school and our very own SUJJAUDDIN SIR chased us to a building 1 km away form school. We took shelter in one of our friend's home and he literally came inside the house to catch us. It was a narrow escape due to the fact that our friend's mom sent us to the terrace for hiding. And than she scolded once sujjauddin sir left. Man..that was a close shave and one of the many inicdents to cherish...!!
Keep up the good work.
Pranav Motiwala.
Your name sounds familiar to me. I joined JJ way back in 1977 and graduated in 1989 (12th grade).
I remember Major Bamji poking his fingers into our stomachs if we did something untoward. I was scared and in awe of the guy.
One funny incident I remembered was once during PT (which I hated), I was monkeying around while doing the parade -laughing, chatting etc. I was surprised when I was summoned by the principal's office. There Major Bamji gave me a scolding of my life for misbehaving on the field - I nearly peed in my shorts. I could not, for the life of me, figure out how he came to know about that; I was sure someone had squealed on me, but who? Next week, during PT, I behaved like a good kid but at the same time, I was keeping an eye on people around me - trying to figure out how the hell did Bamji know. My gaze accidentally went upwards and what I saw stunned me - from afar, there was Major Bamji, on top of a building with a pair of binoculars, watching us :). I could not believe the guy :). He was fantasic - full of passion and discipline.
I remember the "JJ pin" you mentioned. I have had many scars on my chest due to the pin; I was never good at pinning myself :).
I had gone to JJ in 2006. Met a lot of teachers. Shehnaz ma'am had lost a family member (she is now the principal). I met Anita teacher, Mrs Devyani (Hindi teacher), Sujauddin (the PT sir - he incidentally thought I was a nosy reporter when I was taking photos of the school and asked me to get lost :)). I met Bipin Desai, Indira ma'am (Drawing teacher), Nirmala Jain etc etc. I even met good old Kakaji (the one who would ring the bell/gong signalling the recess breaks and end of school).
I met Madam Savai in 2006. She lives in an apartment at Parle point. Major Bamji is still alive although not in good shape. He is in Bombay.
Those were the finest years of my life - I realize it now, now that those days are no more. Good, wonderful, carefree days.
After I left JJ, my life had many twists and turns; many ups and down - more downs than ups :(. Today I was feeling nostalgic and chanced upon this site. It made my nostalgia even worse. I really miss those days and would do anything to go back in time and relive those moments again :).
i miss it very much

Not sure if you would remember me but we were class mates in Sir JJ.
so many years have passed that it all seems like a distant memory now. I too have copies of both class pics which you have posted on the blog and surprisingly I was able to recall many of the names. Thanks for making this blog it brought back some really good memories. I am sure most of some time wonder abt a friend who ywe have not meet in years. I haven't visited India in 8 years but now when I visit India in dec I will make sure that I do visit school and may be catch up with few old friends. Do we have a group for the JJ alums where I can join?
Cheers,
Kunj
this is Prateek. I studied in Sr J.J. from 1991 (Higher KG) to 1996 (class IV). I really miss those days. Which catch are u from? And if you anyone who was in class I in 1993 please contact me at prateek.jackisback@gmail.com

It's really very disgusting wat parents r doing..... if dey want better education nd if dey want that d school which was on top b4 nd want it at same place so they have to increase there quality of education...which only come when gud highly educated teachers get appointed nd for obvious it cost...so according to me as... a lay man parents strike is useless...ppl just watching d money nd not their children future....while doing so...they r teaching same to there children....
Best!
